What to Wear
April 21, 2009Every time I book a session people always ask me “What should I wear?” The following are just some suggestions that you can either use or not use. Most importantly your portraits are yours and you should wear what you feel most represents who you are.
Maternity
Maternity sessions are always so much fun. I don’t know if it’s the beautiful round belly or the anticipation of baby arriving, but I just love maternity sessions. I would suggest bringing a few tank tops/halter tops (any color you choose), a white button up shirt if you have one, a stuffed animal from baby’s nursery and any other item or clothing that you would like to wear. My main goal is to photograph who you truly are.
Newborn
Newborns are best to photograph in the first two weeks of life. At two weeks they are sleeping lots and usually sleep through most of the session, making it easier to pose baby and get those timeless shots that we all love. There really isn’t a time limit on newborn sessions because they pretty much run the show. As for what to bring for them to wear – I would suggest bringing a few outfits, a onesie, a stuffed animal, a special blanket and any other items you would like in the photos.
Big Kids
Dress these kiddos in whatever they are comfortable in!! Kids tend to get cranky when they aren’t happy so comfort is key. Feel free to bring several different outfits as well. If they have a favorite toy, blanket ect. let them bring it, often their most treasured items make wonderful props.
Portraits
Anything that screams you!! Black and white are always good but can get a little boring. I love photos with lots of color. If your favorite shirt is bright red and you want to wear it, then do it! It will work and you will look fantastic!! Just.Be.YOU.
